As we go on,we remember, all the times we,had together,And as our lives change, come whatever, we will still be, friends forever1 month left to ORD.
Read the exact lyrics of the song "Graduation by Vitamin C" on any website. Or if you have read zitao's blog then theres no need to.
The chorus is just the chorus by itself. Words bear no meaning, especially if theres no tone and facial expression involved. Its how you interpret them.
HCINCC Mid-Year Camp 2008RSM: 1SG Lee Ren JieARSM: 1SG Koh Jun KiatA reflection usually involves recounting specific examples that you've had experienced which you are going to reflect about. However, i wont bore people with the nitty gritty details, ill just make note of the important points about camp.
Falling in late at Block B parade square.
Reason: Using the clock on the clocktower to judge the time
but anyway it was also because part bs were waiting for someone.
Quote from ex-rsm of HCINCC EOY Camp 2006 - "This is
preposterous!"
Punishment. Shouting. Knocking.
Standing in the hot sun in front of clocktower.
Alpha.Bravo.Charlie.Delta.Echo.Foxtrot.
Muster parade.
Bunks at Block C. Bag check.
*I think NCOs forgot to return some confiscated stuff (an oreo pack and others), but where has it gone to?
Icebreakers. Clustered pumping.
Actually the clustered pumping was meant to be very very cramped so that everyone could see each other clearly. After all, nothing is better than feeling each other than to hear encouragement from others. Even though it will be extremely warm, some people might hit each other and sustain some minor injury, it's the experience that counts. It's being able to see each other endure, push yourself up, grit your teeth, hear the sounds of determination and strong voices made by everyone inside that small space.
But NCOs made a mistake. We just defined a square which was quite big for the entire company to squeeze it. If everyone could squeeze in a really small space and do pushups together, it would really be a feat and something that the Part As, Bs and Cs and be proud of. (excluding the fact that alot of the cadets had their backs/underwear showing after a long period of staying in pumping position).
I'm getting sian of the narrating. Somemore the next part is even more sian.
I'm not really sure how lunch went, just that SLC used the area in front of KKH so the cadets had to use the areas at the sides of KKH where the windows of KKH were.
the place we learnt our pds with the windows as our mirrors to check our angles.Part Cs immersion training. Mutuals presentation and drill session.
Drill session was short because mutuals presentation dragged for too long. And mutual presentation was really. erm. ______
I think i mentioned this somewhere before, but once again, kudos to part c training team for
enduring listening attentively to the cadets for that many trainings involving mutual presentations and correcting them constantly. speaking of that, we should also thank kw, zh, jonheng and by =) for ours couldn't have been any better.
partially it was because of the rain. but once again, it proved to be a test of the part c's capabilities to combat the noises of the rain with their voices. and they didnt disappoint us. the rain just made the conditions worse.
Drill sessions. Some of the part cs proved to be good at cnc. rhythm and tone (other than for some weird tones which we really dont mind) of the commands given were nice. got zai feeling somemore.
Dinner. Actually we should have taught the cadets those new cheers the senior specs learnt lor. i cant rmb what it is exactly, but got the "JIA!" at the back one. though its kind of inappropriate for a situation like dinner during camp, but should teach all of this kind of stuff before ORD. too bad chalet we didnt get the opportunity to have a talk cock session because the atmosphere and the locations weren't right.
Bunk cleaning and bunk check. Got extremes one. This time NCOs have the habit of camping outside the bunks super early before bunk check is supposed to start. of course, all the sadist and guailan crap that we've planned behind the scenes weren't executed, but nevertheless, got a wide variety of bunk check punishments given, ranging from giving drills in the bunk to running down to touch ong teng cheong since tan kah kee this time so far away.
Of course, still got:
"Who never touch the ong teng cheong statue one?"
"Give you all 5 seconds, go touch him."
sounds wrong -.-
Wargames. (i think got quite a few NCOs kena own quite bad including me but got various events happening)
- fun as usual ^^ no other chance to own NCOs/own cadets in wrestling
- part as getting free hugs while the huggers pulls their socks
- free watching for WWE special hcincc edition
- medics being busy as usual
- people screwing up the capture-the-box game
- guankoi owning quite a few NCOs den kena own by the Sam =)
- injuries (alfred spraining his foot, jingkai falling onto the floor on his head, others with scratches and cuts)
next time FFA for final round should have retying of socks lah. just continue playing all the way until time runs out den use a torch to get everyone's attention to go back. if not those who kena own really sian. especially NCOs =P
2nd dayOrienteering. Muddy boots.
Enduring. First experience for Part As and Bs.
Equipped with water bottles and map.
Squeeze together for a briefing.
Ready, GO!
Be it a pass or a fail. Still an achievement. Acknowledge the fact that everyone (if they did) put in their best. That seniors (especially the Part Cs) led their juniors well. That you all completed the activity as a section.
The activity dragged. Everything was pushed back. So company march time was cut by quite a fair bit. Supposed to cheer all the cheers that our batch know de. But then, no time so too bad too sad.
March to SOC.
Part As getting punished for things i won't say. Repeated too many times already. But you've got to admit, the part a training team knows most of the Part As' problems and are trying very hard to change them within the constraints of not dealing excessive punishment to scare them off. Think we were kind of, insensitive and inconsiderate when we just meng talk about the bad points of part as before and during camp. Got see their disappointed faces lah.
So on behalf of those who've been flaming Part As, i apologize to the Part A training team =)Though they wouldn't take the harsh criticism to mind, they understand that the Part As had dragged down the standards and the speed of the company in various activities. That is inevitable, but this batch of Part As seemed to be more problematic. And they have been tolerant and accepting of the Part As. They might not feel the gratitude, but having known that they have done their best is one encouragement by itself. Hopefully, ORD the Part As will sincerely show their appreciation for the Part A training team for going through with them one of the most difficult stages in their life as ncc cadets. Praying that they wont screw up ORD like what our batch of Part Bs did =)
SOC activity. Large number of cadets reporting sick. The main problems were:
- heat exhaustion from too little water and body salts (large number)
- injuries (small number)
- people chao geng-ing (acting sick to slack off)
- excessive strain and fatigue (forfeits too heavy for part As, company march was just before SOC)
MIA. Planned the activity with a lot of different people. And the way NCOs acted by talking into the walky talky was quite..amusing =D
Though the Part Cs saw through our plot, they cooperated and carried on with the search and took it seriously (from our point of views). On the other hand, some Part Bs and Part As slacking off. Attributing the faults is of no use, finding the source of the problem is more important. Was it the discipline? Was it because of the heavy and strenuous activities before that? RSM and ARSM didnt mention all the slack behaviour they showed during the search because they wanted to lighten the mood of the camp after the morale dropped like hell during the SOC activity. But here is a nice place to list the mistakes/offences committed
Slacking:
- walking slowly and taking a stroll through the school
- not listening to part cs or bs when they are trying to organize and coordinate the search (applies to As, Bs and Cs)
- looking at the floor and walking
- gazing around aimlessly
- talking about other things (people smiling while searching?)
Poor coordination:
- People lagging behind the section, not keeping compact when travelling from point to point.- Areas searched weren't planned out properly. BOS didn't coordinate the company very well.
Though cadets would have expected NCOs to coordinate the search (which we will most likely do in the case of a real missing person), we left the cadets to their own devices other than talking to them about places that we've searched and asking some questions to get more "information".
Games
Inititally the entire camp schedule did not invovle company games since the 3rd day was totally occupied by NE trail and route march. But the change came about when the camp morale was seriously at an all time low. Hopefully people had fun, but there were certainly people who did not, especially the seniors who were very conscious of what the others and their juniors were doing. Examples of inappropriate behaviour need not be mentioned i guess. Just to give an example: shouting even though its not required, being too informal in some ways.
Though it's games, discipline throughout the camp must be kept high. Repeated countless times but apparently the part As and some part Bs forgot that. NCOs just tolerated it because it was supposed to be enjoyable and to lighten the mood.
3rd dayRoute march and NE trail.
Route march was seriously much nicer than what we had for the past 2 years. in terms of the level of difficulty it was also much more easier because of the relatively flat and level ground. most of us felt that way because it was seriously damn slack for us. As compared to the other years, the scenery was nice and the environment was cooling.
*added* Can see lah, NCOs taking it so laxingly. Whole bunch of NCOs could chiong in front of the company until we couldnt see them clearly from beside the company. Considering that jonj and har were carrying 10 litres of water (i think) in those big 1.5 litres of water bottles. really tankers sia.
But the cheers, singing, encouragement given and the self-discipline was quite shit. Cheers were soft, there was no zai atmosphere, part as didnt know a lot of cheers and songs, people leading some songs that a lot of people didnt know (which is dumb because they led while singing so softly), some part as were enduring in silence while others were chit-chatting during the route march. Even after giving them the benefit of doubt, assuming that they were encouraging each other and talking to each other to teach some cheers/songs, i overheard part cs talking among themselves about gsk, ifc and trainfire stuff, saw part as and bs talking to each other.
Company route march leh. Not excursion, mass walk, a stroll in the park leh. Was quite..disappointing. Especially the BOS.
NE trail was cut short cos the TOs went to get the bus to arrive much earlier than the time indicated on the action plan. In the end, cadets missed out on so much fun activities and interesting things that they could have learnt which weijing and his team planned so hard for. It was really supposed to be a damn fun activity and even though we didnt emphasize on running from point to point, only a few sections ran for most of the duration of the NE trail. Maybe route march was too effort consuming. But still, another disappointment when we saw that cadets didnt even bother to jog to their locations when they could and werent very tired.
Solonight. This time there wasn't much hiong night pt because TOs officially banned it for some reason which i cant clearly remember. Either because of the injury during wargames with the reason being the darkness at night which made it difficult to see or because of the fact that they wanted no late night physical activities excluding wargames.
4th dayPhoto montage and POP.
Photo montage was well done! A round of applause for wenshan and zitao =)
*i think zitao wanted to post about the photo montage saying that it was well done but it got autosaved as a draft when he closed it, so i saw it ^^ (editted cos i thought it was wenshan)
too bad there werent a lot of photos that could be put for NE trail and route march because of little photographing done during NE trail and the bloody screwed comp which hanged every now and then, making it difficult to add a lot of the photos for the 3rd day.
And we didnt manage to take a section photo -.-"
POP.
Bradford was Part A BC, Hubert was Part A MI.
Yong Xiang was Part B BC, Tan Yang was Part B MI.
And lastly, the RSM's drill commands and the end of POP was zai diao =DAnd that concludes our last camp as NCOs and in our NCC life.
Instead of cut scenes, we have secret things to post about camp =)
Though they arent really that secret anymore (when you read them lah).
Funny things people do while asleep:
Sleep-talking antics (copied from my blog)
Weijing*nudge weijing*
me - "oie weijing you need help to mark the maps anot"
*weijing looks up sleepily, starts to throw a tantrum and slams his hands on the table and says
wj - "Uhhh i want to sleep lah!" (in that kind of 小孩子气 tone. pardon me for failing to describe the "uhhh" properly cos it cannot be described in words) and goes back to sleep
me - tried to take the maps from weijing (his head and arms were resting on the maps on the table)
wj raises his arm out and snatches the maps back onto the table
"don't touch my things lah" (in a kaopei tone) and goes back to sleep.
Junkiatkiat also very funny. first day we had our usual fire drill at around 3am if im not wrong. renjie tried to wake junkiat up.
the first time he did so, kiat replied something like "okay"kiat didnt wake up.
the 2nd time renjie tried, kiat replied, "Nevermind, you recover."
LOL. ARSM telling RSM to recover. wonder who kiat is zhamming in his dreams O.O
CadetsCadets called for interviews in the middle of the night do all sorts of weird things. Won't list them here =D
Aden - supper"Make sure the banana you eat is hard hard one.
Don't eat soft soft banana."
Don't get him wrong
like what you're thinking nowAlfred - leg injurySir Eddie Lau said that unless the injury might be "life threatening", dont need to go to hospital
The paramedic eventually brainwashed alfred into going to hospital for a checkup.
This amazing feat was done by firstly wrapping his leg using a bandage from our medic kit.
(its actually a plot to make it seem serious)Then she kept asking alfred, you want to follow us to the hospital anot. since we are here already you might as well go for a check up. we still don't know whether its a
fracture or a sprain, i also cannot tell. go for an x-ray to make sure that everything is fine.
alfred initially dowan go one, the paramedic convinced him to go. in the end, most of said that it didnt seem so serious and alfy didnt go -.-"
Picnic in Ops roomOnce upon a time, in the HCINCC Mid-Year Camp during June 2008, the members of Part D'08 who were free in the Operations room had a wonderful picnic with the bountiful food rations they had. There was a wide variety of food and delicacies, ranging from strepsils to bread and butter to mushroom soup to maggi mee to high quality maggi mee to mushroom soup to mixed rice to macdonalds to curry chicken
and chao ta rice *added* Food with enriched nutrientsWith our blend of tradition and innovation, we create food with bread, noodles, and cans, which have the carbohydrates, proteins, fats and salts, to succeed in killing NCOs via high blood pressure.
We've done this for two camps liao. Spamming packets of seasoning (referring to 3 or more) into one mess tin with 2 packs of maggi mee, to cause saturation to occur when the water is heated. DAMN SICK LAH. The soup is ownage but super salty and unhealthy.
As a medic, i strongly discourage people from doing so because it endangers your health and i dowan to see you inside medic room during campAnd we have our own creation: HotPot by jonj!
God's creation is rich in everything from fats to salts to msg to everything detrimental to your health. I can't remember the amazing ingredients, but he just poured alot of canned food inside his mess tin and heated them up. The others say it was "damn nice", but providing "high blood pleasure" certainly sounds tempting =)
Madam's visit to the Ops and Medic roomsLily Chai entered ops room and found NCOs using the computer and a laptop.
They didnt close comp and greet her when she came in =X
"Why are you all using the computer during camp?"
Scold and kp.
"Sorry."
"Sorry who?"
"Sorry mam."
After that, she went into medic room with a nice dark face.
Got storm coming! Cat 1! CUT ALL ACTIVITIES NOT UNDER SHELTERMedics greeted her. She didnt greet back.
When she came in her first question was, "Where are the records for the medic room?" (or something along that line)
Den keep asking about the casualty rate and sick people like she want to get us into a difficult situation. Answer finish her questions liao then she seemed still abit buay song and walked off.
An excellent example of a PMS patient. Sorry, no medicine to cure PMS in medic room =)Headlines: RSM lost his beloved walky-talky on the busDuring the orienteering activity on the second day of HCINCC Mid-Year Camp, the RSM and ARSM went to pass the medic kits to the mobile medics who were patrolling the orienteering areas.
Out of the blue, the RSM suddenly wanted to shit, so the RSM and ARSM chiong back to school so that RSM could
shit. However, RSM's walky-talky was left on the bus 156! and Jaron had to go to Sengkang interchange to get the walky-talky back.
Haha. We noticed cadets thanking us online. Actually, we have lots to thank the cadets for.
Thanks for being responsible and cooperative in many ways, especially during camp.
i still remember the days when we were talking cock and suggesting about encouraging the entire part to pon camp. but of course, we didnt pon any camp in the end =)
But still, it remains a fact that many people. especially those who really think in depth and in a mature way, will understand many unreasonable or illogical things about ncc protocol and stuffs about camp.
an example being: zhamming for bunk check
Sweating more = dirtying the bunk more and making it more smelly
wont bother to explain this kind of things. hopefully those who are seeing this have already understood.
Thanks for giving us feedback (though we thought some are not feasible because we have gone through some of them already)
example: suggesting that bath time be moved to the last event of the day before lights out
quite true, the most obvious situation being first day with bath time -> wargames
*powder* *powder* wah the water so shuang -> rolling on mud and the floor
Lastly, thanks for making us feel appreciated.
Though its the trend to thank ncos when its nearing ORD as well as during ORD for their efforts, its really quite nice to see people put on ur msn nicks or private messages words of thanks. And we know that sign of appreciation is not just 人云亦云 someone thank then the rest thank, or a trend that you have to follow, but something that comes from the heart.
Little trainings left. Enough to be counted on two hands when pds trainings are included, can be easily counted on one hand if you don't include pds trainings. Appreciate the time and effort put in from NCOs and from your own platoonmates. Enjoy the times you all have together before ORD. *which of course, applies to Part Ds more =D*
be proud that we belong to
